I (not very gently) tore out the Tampa map from my atlas and grabbed some scrapbook paper. I used some Mod Podge to apply the map to the wallet. After it dried I trimmed the edges and applied some more Mod Podge. I ditched the scrapbook paper for a bright yellow. I just cut out TOM by hand (therefore not very straight) and used a little blue highlighter along the edges to make it pop and Mod Podged it on!
It was a fun & quick project that the birthday boy and his folk really liked! He got several other gift cards at the party to put in his new wallet!

That is pretty clever. Thanks for sharing. I love maps and map creations so I will be implementing this idea in my crafting somewhere.
ReplyDeleteI've got many more idea in my head for maps & mod podge!
DeleteWhat a neat idea! And to think I was just about to throw out my old atlas!
ReplyDeleteNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Don't!!! Craft it!
DeleteThis is a great idea, especially for boys. Mine always joke that they're no longer small or cute so they get nothing, this is a perfect idea for their student cads. Funny we were just talking about hoarding :)
ReplyDeleteYes. Older boys can be hard to craft/gift for!
DeleteI love how you made "something out of nothing!" I'm sure the recipient was touched by the way you personalized this gift to acknowledge his former home. I think 14 must be a difficult age at which to start school all over again. The loving welcome you and your son are extending to this young man certainly must be appreciated. You are a kind and caring mom, Diana!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your super sweet comment. It means a lot!
DeleteI LOVE this idea for fancying up those little plastic wallets to use for giving gift cards! Brilliant! I'm pinning this to remember for future birthdays!
