Cookie Dough Dip Reviews

Friday, September 28, 2012

I went to a family party a few weeks ago and my husband's aunt served some Monster Cookie Dough Dip. It was really good and I decided to explore cookie dough dips myself. I wanted to do some side by side comparisons of different varieties. The perfect opportunity came up with my son's birthday party. He decided to invite a few buddies over for an all day video game & food fest. Instead of cake he wanted cookie dough. My kids always want to eat cookie dough but I won't let them because of the raw egg! I came up with 4 different flavors and served them with regular & chocolate animal crackers and vanilla wafers for dipping.
For Chocolate Chip I tried this recipe which uses cream cheese. It was good, but didn't taste like cookie dough. More like a creamy pie filling with chocolate chips and M&Ms. My taste testers liked this but not as cookie dough. 2 days later and we still have a little of this in the fridge. I will not make a cookie dough dip recipe with cream cheese again.
I bookmarked a recipe for Double Fudge Cookie Dough Dip recipe and when I went back to bookmark it I could not find it. Luckily I had written the recipe down. Instead of chocolate chips I added Reece's Pieces. This one was VERY yummy and actually tasted like cookie dough. The consistency was right too. It was my FAVORITE and I'll eat it right off the spoon! I will definitely serve this again!! No more of this left!!!
Double Fudge Cookie Dough Dip

1/2 cup butter, melted
1/2 cup brown sugar
1 cup sugar
1 cup flour
1/4 cup cocoa powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 Tablespoon vanilla
milk or heavy cream
chocolate chips or candy

Combine the butter & sugars, mix the flour, cocoa, & salt in another bowl
and then mix in with the wet mixture. Add vanilla. Add milk or cream a very
small amount at a time until it's the consistency that you want. I guess that I used
about 1/4 cup of heavy cream. Add your chocolate chips or candies. Refrigerate.

I also did this Sugar Cookie Dough recipe. I divided the batter in half and put sprinkles in half for sugar cookies and cinnamon in the other half for snickerdoodles. This recipe was the least favorite. The snickerdoodle idea was a dud! I had to throw it out after the party. This is more of a cream dip, like the one you use for fruit, rather than cookie dough. The rest of the dough (without sprinkles or cinnamon) is still in my fridge. Sweets never last around here!
I am going to check out a few more recipes or maybe even mess with the Chocolate Fudge recipe and see how it turns out. Memes I link to listed here.

Wooden Name Banner

Thursday, September 27, 2012

My daughter's Kindergarten teacher recently had a baby and we made her a special baby gift. We went to the craft store and picked up wooden letters, scrapbook papers in the colors of his nursery, matching ribbon, and some embellishments.
We started out by drilling 2 holes in each letter. After sanding them a little bit we pained the sides of the letters white. Then we applied the scrapbook paper to each letter with Modge Podge. We sanded the edges and applied a few more top coats of Modge Podge. We strung the ribbon through the holes (and applied some hot glue to the back to hold the ribbon/letters in place), and then added the cute boy embellishments. We are happy with how it turned out! Apparently it matches his room perfectly.
We will probably do something like this again, but probably with smaller letters. Maybe even ones that are already white depending on the color scheme. Memes I link to listed here.

It's time for a new look! I'm going to be making my blog wider so that I can post bigger pictures and I will be changing the design! I usually give my blog a fall/winter look for the colder weather, but I picked a bright summery kit for the new look. Stay tuned!

I will also be unveiling a new creative meme on my blogoversary, which is October 5th.

Puppy Protest!

Friday, September 21, 2012

Our dog was groomed a week ago. On Sunday night we noticed that he was acting weird and we discovered that he has some razor stubble on his lower belly around his boy part. By the next morning is was super irritated from him licking it. I put some bag balm on it and put on a cone that we borrowed from a friend. As you can see he is still is adorable & happy in this weird contraption. We thought it looked like some kind of Shakespeare or clown collar, but it kept him away from the irritated area.
Well, he's been throwing a puppy protest of sorts. He has been pooping in the house (luckily same spot each time, which is not on the rug), getting up on the furniture (even pushing off the laundry baskets we put on the sofa to keep him off), and yesterday he seemed to be playing possum with me. He wouldn't wake up and when he did, he just looked up at me with glazed over eyes like something was wrong. So I took off the silly collar to make sure it wasn't choking him.

Guess what? All of a sudden he was back to normal. I kept a close eye on it to see if he'd lick the bad spot, but he's left it alone. Personally I am glad his protests are over as I was the one that had to deal with them. For some reason he just wasn't as naughty at night when the rest of the family was home. Of course, I was the one who put on the collar and bag balm. Silly dog! I bet he would have held up a picket sign in his little paws would let him!!

I HATE the Blogger Updated Interface

Thursday, September 20, 2012

I know it's been available for a while, but I've avoided upgrading to the new Blogger interface for as long as possible. They had posted warnings that the old interface would be removed soon...and it finally happened. UGH!!!!!!!!! I **HATE** the updated interface! I know they are trying to go more modern and user friendly, but it's NOT!!!!!!! Blogging requires more clicks now. You want to add a label? You used to be able to just type one in at the bottom of your post...but now you have to click over to the right for the labels and other post settings to open up.
And for a custom blogger designer like myself, the new interface is a PITA! It's making my job much harder! HATE-HATE-HATE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And I am not alone on this. The Blogger forums have exploded in the past 15 hours or so since the old editor was removed. People are NOT happy!!!

The New Normal Lunch

Monday, September 10, 2012

As I mentioned recently, my daughter doesn't want bentos for lunch anymore. She is tired of all the attention she gets, which is understandable. So here is our new normal.
Some kind of sandwich or similar, carrot sticks, Babybel, a fruit (often fresh, but sometimes prepackaged like this natural apple sauce or peaches), dried cranberries (in the green container), and a drink. I love our new drink containers. The lid has an attached ice stick that helps keep the drink and her lunch cool. You can see that she was in the middle of decorating her sandwich with edible marker this morning. So while there are aspects of a bento, it's mostly an ordinary sack lunch.

Garden Harvest

Wednesday, September 5, 2012

My garden is going much better since the weather cooled off a little bit in August and we got all that rain. We ended up with about 4-5" from Isaac, but it came in waves so there was no flooding. My garden *LOVED* the it! We are finally seeing some Gherkins. They are a miniature cucumber that looks more like a watermelon for a doll.
The snap peas I planted 2 weeks ago are already about 8" tall and starting to climb!
My daughter was so excited to go pick tomatoes & green beans yesterday.
Look at our haul! Those were the *BEST* green beans we've EVER eaten!!

Isaac Update

Saturday, September 1, 2012

Nothing to update! We've only had a little bit of rain. Barely enough to record. We took the forecast seriously and did a lot of work around our house. I bought a ladder and DH cleaned out the gutters. I cleaned up our back porch. We have a walk out bi-level with a drain that is about 4' from the back door (which I discovered is rotting in places), so it's important to make sure there isn't leaves and debris out there to clog the drain and cause a back-up. With clean gutters not much goes into the back drain, but it's better safe than sorry. We even put some things in the basement up off the floor. The gutters & drain area needed to be cleaned, so no wasted efforts. We do have a tornado watch with some storms in the area, but I am not sure they are moving this way with the rotation. Now we can focus on the party we are hosting tomorrow!
