Reality Wrap: Week 11

Thursday, April 29, 2010

Survivor~ JT was soooo dumb! I thought it was very entertaining. I love how Pavarti pulled out the idols and gave them to Sandra & Jeri. EVERYONE was shocked, including Russell. Looks like he gets mad about it this week, which will probably lead to his demise. He can be mad at Pavarti for not telling him, but if he goes against her he will lose. I might be wrong, and they just pick off the heros and then turn on each other. If I had to guess now...I'd say Jeri could win?!?

Amazing Race~ I was glad to see it return...even if the season is weak. Making noodles looks tough. I really thought the brothers were going to be goners, but it was the cops in last place...and they were spared. I figured it was non-elim when the cowboys got to the mat and Phil didn't say, "You are the first of the 3 final teams." So this week will be an elimination. The cops might get an easy speed bump and stay. Whatever happens, I think the cowboys will be in and they win the million dollars!

Celebrity Apprentice~ I actually skipped through this episode a little bit. I thought the 24 Hr Fitness people were going to hate the rock routine cause it was very edgy, but they LOVED it. I am sure they will clean it up a bit before offering it. That was an incredible amount of money raised by both teams for the task and I thought it was nice that no one got fired.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

Saturday, April 24, 2010

Actually I don't think there is any good in this post. I am going to address the ugly out there on the internet, specifically Facebook. I am astounded that people are joining a group that calls/supports/prays for someone's death. I am even more astounded that friends of mine have joined such groups. And I am not talking teens, like my son who joins just about every group that he comes across. I would hope that I've raised him better than to join a group wanting someone to die. I am talking about adults. People that I consider good, well meaning individuals. Now I am not so sure. I don't believe any of these people would think that bullying is OK, but isn't this a form of bullying? Maybe, maybe not!? I am not even going to get into whose death they are wishing for. I am just shocked that anyone's death would be wished for...whether they be a politician, family member, neighbor, or stranger. I feel as if Facebook has made me a very liberal person. More likely it's raised my awareness of how liberal I've always been. I just can't understand the hate that exists out there!!

Tuesday, April 20, 2010

My birthday was Monday. As you get older it's not really a big deal. I got a few nice cards and many well wishes on FB, but overall it was mellow. Normally I feel no different on my birthday, but I did feel older this year. It wasn't as if I woke up on Monday morning and felt as if I'd aged overnight. I've been feeling very bloated for several weeks, my knees were sore from the paddle boat on Saturday, and my arms were very tired out too. I know I haven't been getting enough exercise over the past few months. I've continued to walk the dog nearly every night (30 mins), but I've slacked off on the Wii. My body has really suffered because of it.

So today I worked out with Wii Fit+. My new goal is 30 mins a day. I started out by doing the fit test and I was shocked at the results. I was expecting it to say my Wii Fit age was in the 50s or 60s. This is what I scored~WOW! That was a shock! I even did well on nearly all the games I played. Top scores on many. I am not going to claim that I am better shape than I thought, cause I look and feel not so good. But it's a good place to jump back on the wagon! I am guessing that when I have my annual physical next week that the Dr won't think my fit age is 21!!

Our Fun Weekend

Monday, April 19, 2010

Dori & I went to St. Louis over the weekend to visit friends. It's the 4th time I've gone down and stayed with my friend, Michelle. 3rd time with Dori. Michelle & I met online over 4 years ago as we were in the same online adoption group and used the same adoption agency. Dori loves playing with Michelle's daughter. On Saturday we met up with DeeDee and her daughter (also in the same online adoption group) and Robin and her girls. It was fun to have five 4 yr olds together. The weather was absolutely PERFECT and we spent a lot of time outside. I didn't get sunburned because I kept reapplying sunblock.

I really enjoyed having the weekend off and not thinking about pending clients. It was super laid back (hopefully not too laid back for my host!) and relaxing. I slept well, which usually isn't the case when I am away from home. The drive home seemed so long as I had to continue on about 20 mins to pick up the dog from our groomer who boarded him. It was his first time being boarded and I was concerned about how it went. We have her lined up to watch the dog while we are gone for 5 weeks this summer and I hoped that he behaved. He was excited when we showed up and he did well. He was around several other dogs and a cat and didn't freak out at all. It makes me realize that we need to socialize him more.

We Are The Truth

Thursday, April 15, 2010

The Joint Council on International Children's Services has dubbed today, April 15, 2010, as We Are The Truth day. This was prompted by the recent return of a boy to Russia from an adoptive mom in Tennessee. You can read more about the JCICS's call to action here.

Many of you know that we adopted a child from China in 2006. Overall it has been a wonderful experience for us. As you can see from all the pics I post, we just adore our daughter. She fits well into the family. She knows she was adopted (even though I am not sure she fully understands what that means) and is very proud of it.I wanted to share my feelings of being both a biological and adoptive mom. First off, I am a mom to 3 kids. I don't really view myself and any different of a mom to any of them. While I might reference that a child is biological or adopted at times, it really has no bearing in me being a mom. My daughter is every bit as much of my child as my sons are. In fact, I almost take my parenting of her more seriously. I know that sounds strange, but let me explain. Anyone who has adopted know that there is a bunch of paperwork. It's not something you enter into lightly. When we were in China we had to swear in front of both Chinese & US officials that we would love, parent, care for, and not abuse this child. When you give birth to a child, there is no one there to make you promise to care for this child. It's really something I took for granted with my boys. Even though I love and take care of my sons, I specifically told several people and 2 countries that I would do so for my daughter. I think it just raised my awareness of parenting to a new level. Something I kept in mind during our struggles those first months home. No child is perfect, biological or adopted. You can't choose what your child will be like, their abilities, their reactions, their health. What I can do is to choose to parent...24/7/365!!

Reality Wrap: Week 9

Wednesday, April 14, 2010

Survivor~ Just as I thought, the villains are imploding. BUT the heros are sooooo dumb for thinking that the woman are all in an alliance. The previews show JT wanting to give Russell the hidden immunity idol. YES...that would be the dumbest move in Survivor history! Just not sure how this season is going to turn out.

Amazing Race~ In past seasons the U-turn has been a non-factor, but it's really made a difference this season. I am surprised that Brent & Caite have made it this far. But at this point, it's anyone's game. I do think the Cowboys will win it all though. No AR this week due to the CMAs or whatever music show it is.

CA~ WHY is this show 2 hours? I start to watch and then lose interest about 40 mins in. Then I realize that it's not even half done. Why do I watch it? Pretty much a boring episode this week. Maybe I won't keep watching. (CA is Celebrity Apprentice)

Today's the day!

Tuesday, April 13, 2010

It's a day that strikes fear in millions of women...
A day that many stress over...

No, I am not getting squished (that's next month)!

I am getting a new driver's license pic. I have to tell you, I LOVE my old pic. I look so young and pretty. So I piled on the make-up this morning and practiced my best bimbo look~I passed the eye test with flying colors and she only took 1 pic. It's not bad...but I look like I just stepped out of a tanning salon...with a shiny forehead. I am sure years from now when it comes time for a new pic, I will want to keep this one! LOL! It is better than my recent new passport pic!

Reality Wrap: Week 8

Thursday, April 8, 2010

This will be a short one. I've been SUPER BUSY lately (read more here) that I am surprised that I have blogged at all this week!!

Survivor~ WOW! Going into last week's episode I thought that Boston Rob still had the upper hand in the Ego-Fest. I was wrong! Coach is going to go off the deep end because he betrayed both sides. I am sure in his whacked out mind he is OK with his decision to vote for Courtney. Villians are just going to implode now. I am actually thinking that JT has a chance to win this thing. Heroes actually have the upper hand now.

Amazing Race~ Did you notice that contestants got to the pit stop in the opposite order that they left? I think the Cowboys are going to win, but as someone pointed out...you live and die by the taxi drivers. I was excited to see them go to Malaysia (as we lived there in 2001), but they went to Penang, which we did not visit.

Celebrity Apprentice~ For the second time in as many years...I was happy to see Blago get FIRED! He is sooo pathetic when it comes to technology! Srly!

Have a great Thursday!!!

Wordless Wednesday: Cousins Goofing Off

Tuesday, April 6, 2010

It's been a dog day around here! They tested the tornado sirens at 10am this morning and Cooper started howling like a siren. We've never heard him do that before and it was sooo funny! Previous months the windows were closed. Windows wide open today so we could hear it loud and clear! I stopped howling loud when I started filming, but you can hear him kind of growling/whining in this one!
A few hours after this I put Cooper out in the backyard while I unloaded the groceries and when we went to let him in, he wasn't in the backyard. We found this whole in the fence that he just created!I called his name and he poked his head through the opening, but wouldn't come into the backyard. So I grabbed his leash and bucket of dog food (which usually gets him to come) and went around the neighbor's fence and around into a yard behind us. I asked the lady who was gardening if she had seen the dog and she didn't. Dori said she would hear the dog and when I called him, I noticed he was in the backyard. He came through the hole and over to me right away. What a cute little PITA! I covered up the hole, but we still need to go out into the yard with him. He still tries to bust out. I think those baby bunnies on the other side of the fence are driving him NUTTY!

He got out a few days ago and ended up back home after 5 minutes. At least he came back home both times!!

Mini Lemon Tartlets

Monday, April 5, 2010

We had a FABULOUS weekend, but I am so busy that I cannot do a write-up about it. I will share a GREAT recipe I found online. I brought this to a dessert potluck that we went to and people liked it! I did just lemon tartlets.Mini Lemon Lime Tartlets

1 (16.5-ounce) package NESTLÉ® TOLL HOUSE® Refrigerated Sugar Cookie Bar Dough
1 (14-ounce) can NESTLÉ® CARNATION® Sweetened Condensed Milk
1 (8-ounce) package 1/3 less fat cream cheese (Neufchâtel) or regular cream cheese, at room temperature
2 cups thawed fat free, reduced fat or regular frozen whipped topping
1/4 cup lemon juice
2 teaspoons grated lemon peel
1/4 cup lime juice
2 teaspoons grated lime peel
Additional lemon and lime quarter slices, peel curls or grated peel (optional)

1. PREHEAT oven to 325ºF (175ºC). Paper-line 24 muffin cups.
2. CUT dough along pre-scored lines; place one piece of cookie dough
in each muffin cup.
3. BAKE for 13 to 15 minutes or until golden brown. Cookies will be puffy. Cool completely in pan on wire rack.
4. BEAT sweetened condensed milk and cream cheese in large mixer bowl until smooth. Gently fold in whipped topping. Divide mixture into two medium bowls. Stir lemon juice and lemon peel into one bowl and lime juice and lime peel into other bowl.
5. POUR about 3 tablespoons lemon cream cheese mixture over 12 cookie cups. Repeat with lime cream cheese mixture and remaining cookie cups. Refrigerate for 2 hours or overnight. Decorate with lemon and lime quarter slices, curls or peel, if desired.

Weekend Plans?!

Friday, April 2, 2010

The kids are out of school today, so we've had a very laid back morning. My plans for today include laundry, bloggy work, make cascarones, color Easter eggs, make choc chip banana bread, work on a volunteer schedule, help set up for Easter breakfast at church, dinner @ my sister's house, and enjoying the AWESOME weather.

Tomorrow we are going to an all day adoption event put on by one of the Asian student groups at the local university. It's for children adopted from China and their families. Each child (adopted or not) is paired up with a college student who is their big brother or sister for the day. They do games, crafts, activities, discussions, etc. The parents get to hear presentations over various subjects related to parenting an (internationally) adopted child, Asian culture, etc. It's so nice to catch up with many of our friends who attend the program. Our daughter is shy and overwhelmed by the event at times, so we are taking steps for her to feel more comfortable this year. We had her big sister over for dinner the other night and they made some fun plans that she is looking forward to. It should be a great day!

Sunday is Easter and I have to be up and to church early to help serve Easter breakfast. It is a huge event that most of the church shows up for. I help with the prep, but my favorite part is serving the egg casserole. I get to schmooze with all the people there. One thing that amazes me about it is we have around 20 people make egg casseroles with the same recipe in identical foil pans and each casserole looks (and often tastes) completely different. I love the ones that have been cooked longer and have brown edges! We have a few other duties at church that morning. We usually eat Easter dinner with my sister and her family, but they leave for vacation tomorrow so we are on our own. I think we might go out for Chinese food! LOL! Then we have my other favorite Easter activity in the afternoon. We all gather at a friends with a dessert to share and then have an egg hunt for kids of all ages. Instead of the traditional hunt we hide cascarones, which we then smash on each other's head. It's LOTS of fun! Then we will come home and complain about how we overate! LOL! Great day, eh?

What are your weekend plans?

Reality Wrap: Week 7

Thursday, April 1, 2010

First off...Amazing Race had higher ratings than Survivor last week. That is quite unusual, especially as this season of AR is pretty weak and Survivor has been really strong. It's probably because Survivor was on Wednesday due to March Madness and people forgot to watch. Here are my quick reviews:

Surivor~ What an episode! I've been thinking Russell is looking dumber and dumber each week, but what he pulled off was epic. Tyson was SOOOO dumb! He realized his mistake before the final vote was read, but everyone else was clueless. I *LOVED* Rob's facial expressions...he was so confused. It was priceless.

Amazing Race~ Stupidity ruled this leg...mistake, after mistake, after mistake. And then it was a non-elim? I don't mind the cowboys at all (although I advise them to KEEP those hats on!) but they deserved to go. Boring dad & daughter are looking stronger and stronger.

Celebrity Apprentice~ OMG...how much longer are we going to have to put up with Rod? He was sooooo pathetic not knowing how to get on the computer or type. My 4 year old types better than he does. But he proved to not be as pathetic as Darryl Strawberry throwing in the towel. Remind me...why did I start watch this season???
