Day 1 of Program

I do not plan on updating my progress of the walking program each day, but I wanted to let you know about day 1. Got up at 7am and did a speed walk for an hour. OMG~ I was so uncomfortable when I finished. My legs were so ichy and on fire. It was driving me nuts! I was about to jump out of my skin. I know it will get better as I get further into the program. I wonder if there is anything I can do to help avoid or deal with that firey itchiness! I just googled it an apparently it's a condition called Exercise Urticaria. Have you experienced it? What did you do to deal with it??

I am tired of being a Frumpy Plain Jane!!

I am not real happy with my appearance right now. It's mostly the weight I have put up over the last 2 years since I became more sedentary with digital scrapbooking and designing blogs. I've put on about 30 lbs. With being a work from home mom, I don't have many occasions to go out and look nice. I don't wear make-up much (which I am OK with...I'm more of a natural girl), but I don't really do much to take care of my looks either. I do try to take care of my skin with cleansing and sunscreen, but day in and day out I am just so plain and boring.

It's time to do something about it. My time is being freed up a little with the kids back in school and I am going to take advantage of that. I am starting a walking program that I found in the April '09 issue of Prevention magazine. This plan focuses on ab fat, which is really where I carry my weight. We do walk for 30 mins each evening with our dog, but it's usually a moderate pace. We will continue those walks, but I am going to start waking up an hour earlier to get a fast paced walk in. This program has you speed walk 3 days and basic walk 2 days a week. There are also ab sculpting moves that I will do 3 days a week. This morning I timed how quickly I can walk a mile, which determines how long I need to walk. I also just took all my body measurements and got a photo so that I can see the results. I've never been much for weighing myself and prefer just to see how my clothes fit. I got rid of a lot of my frumpy clothes earlier this year, so I don't feel the need to go out and buy more at all. (I know...I missed some frumpy clothes!)

I am also growing very tired of my plain long hair! Yes, it's looked nice at the recent weddings we attended, but I am not going to bother curling it on a daily basis. My hair is about 20" long and I've been interested in donating it. Locks of Love does not want any grey hair, so I've been trying to find an alternative. I know...you are SHOCKED that I have any grey and just thought it was all blonde, but it's not. lol! I don't color my hair. Anyway, last month I was at a girls night out for a friend that was getting married and mentioned how I was sick of my hair but couldn't find a place to donate it. The bride's sister mentioned The Ponytail Club. I googled it when I got home and found out they accept ANY hair!! Even colored, permed, or treated! Plus they only need 6 inches of hair. I contacted them and they are looking forward to getting my hair.

Now normally people start losing weight and then have a makeover as they near their weight loss goal, but I don't want to wait. I will be getting my hair cut soon (not short!) and take a few other steps to feel pretty. I am starting the health part of it one element at a time. I think it might be overwhelming to change my eats and exercise all at once, so I am just going to start with fitness. I think this will naturally lead me to eating healthier. I really don't eat all that bad, just too much! I haven't set any specific goals, but maybe I will work my way up and be able to get up really early and run with Harriet!

First Day of 5th Grade

School started today. Parker starts 5th grade. He was cooperative with the annual pic this morning and even gave me a hug across the street from school. That was as far as he wanted me to go. I don't think the teen will be as cooperative on his first day tomorrow!

I ♥ Faces - Bubbles

I love this pic of my boys. It was taken nearly 5 years ago while staying with some friends. It's a bitter sweet memory because we were in town for my mom's funeral. My boys have both grown so much since then.

Still tired...

While I was napping on the couch yesterday the oral surgeon's office called to say they had a cancellation for this morning. So Jake just had his wisdom teeth removed. It all went well and he is resting comfortably in his room right now. I am still tired from being sick, but overall feeling OK. I just want to lay on the sofa again today, but I signed up to help out at a garage sale to benefit a local food pantry this evening. I am supposed to bring some baked goods too. UGH! We don't have anything on the calendar for tomorrow...so I can rest then!

I was hit by a truck!

Not really, but I was violently ill last night. I had a lingering migraine (without pain...just pressure) for a few days, but it started getting very bad last evening. I am not really sure if the headache was actually the same migraine or not, but it came on strong last night. I tried to buck up and do our night walk and then look for meteors with my son, but by 10:45 I couldn't stand it any longer. I have a pretty high pain tolerance and will often just go to bed when I get a headache and that takes care of it.

I woke up after about an hour or so and felt so much pain. DH was really surprised by my reaction to the pain. He was super helpful and supportive and took care of me. When he suggested that we go to the ER I got scared. I finally was able to relax which was the key. I still had the pain and sickness, but it was so much better to deal with when I was calm. I was finally over it by 3:45 and slept until 9:15 or so. I wasn't sure if the headache happened cause I was getting ill or if the headache was so bad that it caused me to be ill. No one else here got sick, so I don't think it was something I ate.

I am feeling pretty weak today. I only have a slight headache and am just hanging out on the sofa. I must be pretty depleted cause my calves keep cramping up. I've had a few bananas and some apple sauce. I am watching the Cubs, which certainly isn't helping the recovery!

Entering Giveaways & Privacy

Starting today I am changing the way that I do giveaways on my blogs. In the past I have asked for people to leave an email address if it's not linked to their account. I've done this so that I am able to get a hold of the winner and to let people know of new giveaways listed at Diana Rambles. Well, people have been getting spammed! I apologize! For the Scentsy giveaway, another Scentsy consultant (actually a director) emailed several of the entrants to promote herself. That is so tacky and I hope she gets in trouble! Several months ago another blog designer approached entrants to a blog makeover giveaway I was offering and she offered them the chance to host a blog makeover giveaway on their blog. On behalf of my readers I send my sincerest apologies!

So from now on all entry information will be private. I will set up a google doc for each giveaway. It will be a simple form and all information entered will be kept private and not shared with anyone. I have gone back and hidden all comments on giveaways I have hosted. A draw back of this is that possible sponsors won't see how many entries I have. My reader's privacy is more important to me than PR.

McLinky Blog Hop: Encouragement

I am participating in the Blog Hop this week. The theme is encouragement. These pics were not taken by me, but they occurred because of me. One of my best (online) buds is Kim. She's really been dealing with a lot lately. Her grandma passed away a week ago and she couldn't attend the funeral because she had surgery on Monday. Her son leaves in 2 days for boot camp, so another online buddie, Cora, and I banded together and ordered Kim a Giant Fortune Cookie.I value many of my online friends just as much as I value my IRL friends. I find lots of support and encouragement from them and it's nice to pay it back!
Do you like the new blog look? I still have a little tweaking to do, but I like it. Check out my new giveaway!

Fun Weekend & a Recipe

We had a great weekend! Saturday was the wedding & celebration of 2 good friends of ours. We saw it coming way back when the started to become special friends. Both are such nice people and deserve this new love & happiness in their life. It was a beautiful ceremony and the reception/party afterward was A LOT of fun!

Several of us brought side dishes for the meal. I did a new recipe and it was a hit. It disappeared quickly! Here it is~

Broccoli Corn Bread Casserole
1 stick of butter
1 pkg (10 oz) frozen chopped broccoli, thawed & drained (I chopped it slightly in the food processor)
1/2 c. finely chopped onion
4 large eggs, beaten
6 oz. lo-fat small curd cottage cheese
1 can creamed corn
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 pkg (8.5 oz) corn muffin mix

Spray 9x13 backing pan and preheat oven to 400 degrees
melt butter in microwave
stir & mix in all ingredients (except muffin mix)
stir in muffin mix
pour in pan and bake for 25 mins

I doubled it and backed in a larger pan for 40 mins. D-lish!

Yesterday was my sister's bday so I made a carrot cake (for the first time!) The cake wasn't as moist as I'd like, so I will try a different recipe next time. I was very surprised by how easy it was. Sorry...no pics of either!

This blog will have a new look SOON!
