Diana Rambles: March 2009

I know...the month turned out LAME! + Clothing suggestions?

Tuesday, March 31, 2009

OK...so it was supposed to be March Madness with a month of fabulous reviews & giveaways...and it fizzled out when I got distracted by my daughter's surgery. Well, I still have several FABULOUS things to giveaway...so stay tuned. I guess March Madness is turning into April Awesomeness. LOL! Just keep an eye out...I will post giveaways when I am ready.

Spring Break is over and everyone is back to school/work. Yesterday I had a 180 mile/6 hour trip for my daughter's surgery follow-up. I almost canceled it because I knew she was going well, but we still went. Dr took one look and said she was going great. DUH! LOL! Nothing against him, we think he's a nice guy and super surgeon...I was just worn out from the whole trip. Then I spent several hours in the afternoon cleaning out my daughter's pig sty room...with her help of course. I have a massive pile of hand me downs and lots of toys & books we are going to donate...not to mention plenty of trash & recycling. She's very happy with her clean room. I told DH that I think she could use some more clothes now...and he thinks I am NUTS! LOL!

I've been wanting DH to dress nicer for a LONG time, but I know it's his choice. He finally decided that he is going to dress more for the job he wants instead of the one he's stuck in. So we did a little What Not to Wear/How Do I Look and have 2 huge garage bags of clothes for Goodwill. We did a big shopping spree at Kohls on Saturday and he is styling now. I think he's a good looking guy...and now he's a good looking sexy guy! LOL! He's also going to start shaving more often. (oh man...I don't have a pic of him to post) Now he wants to help me go through my clothes and throw out all my cardigans and some frumpy clothes. Of course I don't work outside the home so I don't really care what I wear, but I would probably feel better about myself with new clothes. Of course I want to lose weight first. I think my spring/summer clothes are less frumpy, so I should be dressing nicer very soon. I love wearing cardigans to help cover up my (not so attractive) assets and to keep warm. I am willing to ax them, but I need something to replace them. Can you suggest something more attractive than knit cardigans that is casual and comfortable? I am a home body most of the time, so no need for anything nice. Plus I am a wash and wear type of gal...I never dry clean anything!

I did recently buy a few of those blush 1/2-tshirt topless undershirt thingies and I LOVE them. I tend to wear the lower/hip hugger style of pants to help minimize those assets, but then I tend to play a little peek-a-boo belly. This helps elongate my torso and also keeps my middle warmer. I know I could use some better looking knit tops to go with them too. I guess the next time Kohls has a massive sale...that it's my turn to dress better!

OK...got to get my daughter off to pre-school. She's excited to go back after break! Please include any cardigan type suggestions in the comments. Feel free to include any shopping or photo links.

Make Something Monday: Chicken with Finger-Licking Peanut Sauce

Monday, March 30, 2009

OK...I got this recipe off Gina's recipe blog. She calls it Chicken with Finger-Licking Peanut Sauce, but I myself would call it Peanut Chicken Pad Thai.Click here for Chicken with Finger-Licking Peanut Sauce Recipe

I didn't have any chili paste so I used dried crush red peppers, but it still had quite a kick. We were feeding 9 so I doubled it. That was WAY more than enough and 4 people get a huge helping of leftovers for lunch tomorrow!

Reality Wrap

Sunday, March 29, 2009

You get the Reality Wrap early this week! Just got done watching AR. Was it just me or were you hot and sweaty watching it? LOL! OK...Mark & Mike finally pull it together...and they get 2 penalties. I can't believe they were 58 mins ahead of the other teams. I thought it was going to be much closer. It was obvious that one of the teams that did the barrels was going to go home...and I wanted both them to stay. Tired of Victor & Tammy!! The reds did a GREAT job...although they a little intense and unkind to the locals. I think that Jamie is the more impatient one, but I can't tell them apart! LOL! They are doing much better overall than I thought they would be. OK...I really felt bad for Margie. We lived in Malaysia (which is south of Thailand) and it was SOOOOOOOOOOO hot & humid. We would have to get up and exercise early or go to the gym or you'd just melt. I can't imagine having to perform a task in those conditions! It didn't look like any of the teams were drinking enough water. I like how Phil just jumped in to help Margie.

Survivor recap...zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz! Biggest Loser----> Tara rocks!

Survivor is NEW this week (on Thursday) and NO Amazing Race next Sunday due to some country music show. boooooooooooooooooo! (sorry Kim!) I'll be nice and set this to post after my friends in PST start watching!

Yummy Recipe

I might have posted this one before, but I made an adjustment. It's super easy and yummy.

Twisted Cheesey Chicken

Boneless Skinless Chicken Breasts
Sour Cream
Box of Cheez-It Twisterz Cool Ranch & Cheddar

Put chicken breasts in baking dish. (We did 4 large breasts) Slather with some sour cream (we used about 4 oz) and then cover with crushed Cheez-Its. Bake at 350 for an hour.

I am very busy with clients and will post Family FotoFun Friday later today.

Wordless Wednesday: Ready for Summer

*I know you will ask...this is from Kohls!*

Reality Wrap

Tuesday, March 24, 2009

No Survivor last week~ remember it's on Wednesday this week!

Amazing Race~ So glad to see them leave Russia! India is always a challenge!! Why most teams didn't notice the red phone clue...IDK! OK...I have to say that Mel rocked on the challenge. I thought he was about to have a heart attack and he finished first of out the teams there at the same time. Amazing! Reading the instructions and using the proper tools really helped out. I think that Mark/Michael weren't out because they had an awesome taxi driver. They are not very bright and will be the next out. They just seem to bumble about! Margie looked ridiculous with the lipstick on her teeth.

I've been asked what else I watch. I sort of watch Biggest Loser, but I don't get that into it...but I will say GO GIRLS GO!

We're Home!

Sunday, March 22, 2009

We got released about 9 this morning and got home at 11am. It's soooo good to be home!! Dori doesn't act like she had major surgery 2 days ago. She's bouncing around and is as happy as can be! Thanks for all the support and well wishes!!

We just ate a warm home cooked meal (from my BIL) and Amazing Race is on in an hour. Life is good!

Hi from Room 222!

Saturday, March 21, 2009

Ok...that's not our actual room number, but we are in bed 2 somewhere in a midwest hospital.

Yesterday our daughter had kidney related surgery. The surgery went well, but she's been very agitated since. She's quite stubborn and has been fighting meds, fluids, walking, and vitals. Unfortunately that is causing us to spend a 2nd night in the hospital, but we've had some very positive movement over the past few hours. 2 of the 3 big requirements for release have occurred. We are hoping that she'll get up and move around tomorrow morning. Both she & I slept pretty well last night (and I didn't even require any meds...LOL!) and I hope tonight goes as well. DH didn't sleep as well...but maybe tonight. Hopefully our roommates aren't loud (and Dori isn't loud either!) and we all get some rest. I hope the Dr rounds in the morning and that we can be on our way home. I am looking forward to relaxing at home and being in my OWN BED!!!!!

Crazy Busy

Thursday, March 19, 2009

I am sorry I haven't posted the next giveaway. We've been super busy with week with medical appointments and activities. My daughter is having surgery tomorrow (in another city...so driving involved) and I am trying to get everything ready. We went for a pre-op tour yesterday and it was great. They gave her one these great Josh and Friends dogs for comfort. I feel like we've well prepared her and that things will go smoothly. (As smoothly as they can for a major surgery!) We will be in the hospital through the weekend sometime.

The weather has been glorious lately. It really feels like Spring! We know that a cold blast is still possible, but everyone certainly has a spring in their step. We've been spending lots of time outside and with the windows open. It was such a happy day earlier this week when I took the plastic off the windows!! It seems to be warmer than normal this year. I've had snow over Spring Break before (next week), but the 10 day forecast looks good to me!! I hope you've had nice weather where you are.

I am a list maker. It helps keep me organized. I usually make out a weekly list with to-do on one side and shopping list/meals on the other side. Then I add to it and cross off throughout the week. I've been so busy lately that I just can't keep up with the weekly list, so I've changed to a daily list. Of course I misplace papers or ignore things, but not now. I've started using the dry erase board that is on my computer hutch. My list is out there for the whole family to see (although I doubt they care) and I am able to create a new one each day. I still put some easy things on the list (put something in the mail, return emails, ect), but I feel like I am keeping on top of things. Here is the board. pic taken 4 mos agoI know I've been more organized but I also feel like I am losing things lately. We can't prove it, but we think our oldest might be hiding things from us. Maybe, maybe-not...but things see to appear places we looked. I feel like I've been going crazy at times. I know the stuff is in the house...they've just seemed to grow legs. We are not the most organized, so maybe we are overlooking things. Who knows?

Yesterday we met some friends for lunch and last night Dori told me she wants her hair like her friend. Here is my cute & sassy girl~
She has such a baby face in this pic!

Don't forget~ no Survivor today due to basketball playoffs. I think the Office is new though. I've been missing it lately and haven't paid attention.

Have a great Thursday!!

Reality Wrap

Tuesday, March 17, 2009

OK...I am busy today so I am going to make this quick. Not sure if anyone cares about my reviews anyway.

Survivor~ My opinion of JT really dropped last week. (Sorry Mendy!) I think Brandon is completely right about not telling him that he is gay. Of course it doesn't matter cause he is gone. My opinion of Erin is growing cause she (like me) despises coach. DH is now predicting either Erin or Tyson for the win...It's possible.

Amazing Race~ LOVED this episode. It seemed so long. I can't imagine trying to drive in Russia, but many people seemed to speak some English. Those brides were very pretty...but looked so pretty! OK...was the running challenge not the best? Cracked me up!!! Especially Jen's comment about how she had to put on underwear cause she normally doesn't wear any. OMG...too funny!!! Then she's like I wasn't embarrassed, I liked people looking at me cause I am hot in my underwear. LOL! And then Christie in her thong? That was priceless. I just can't imagine traveling around wearing one, but I guess it works for her. And it cracked me up that she had something wrapped around her when they checked into the pit stop. I knew it would be non-elim. They sure seem to get a lot of face time...so I think they are in for a while. I still think that the ones to have the best chance at the final three are Margie/Luke, Tammy/Victor, and the redheads. I like Mel/Mike, but not sure they will hang in there. Kisha/Jen are doing well too. Mark/Michael will be out soon!

Make Something Monday: Modifying Sheets

Monday, March 16, 2009

I recently found a FABULOUS pair of sheet for only $40 at Bergner's Community Days sale. Normally we don't use a top sheet, but these feel so luxurious so we have been. I sleep hot and DH sleeps cold, so we tend to use different blankets, hence no sheet. So with the different blankets on top this sheet just doesn't seem to be wide enough for the bed. I turned it sideways and it's too short to cover shoulders. So I decided to modify the sheets. I cut a wide strip from our previous top sheet (which we never used) and sewed it along the bottom (which was actually the side until we turned it!) and now there is plenty to tuck in along the bottom AND cover our shoulders.

We have a Tempur-Pedic bed & pillows which we love. Regular pillow cases are too big, so I modified the cases. I just turned each inside out. Marked a new edge to fit the pillow and then stitched away. I actually have a serger so the modifications went quick! What's with the sunglasses?

FFFF #18: My Former Years, Part Two

Friday, March 13, 2009

Today continutes the My Former Years photo series. This week's theme is Elementary Years. Please post at least one photo of you in your elementary years...I'd say 5-12 yrs or so. I was saddened by last week's lack of participation. I hope more of you will take part this week. I think I'll leave last week's up for a while. Only 1 pic needed and it doesn't have to be a school portrait. I realize this will involve scanning photos, but you have until next Thursday to participate, so dust those pics off and get scanning! (I actually just scanned this weeks & next week's (HS years)) Once you've posted your pic(s), come back here and fill out the Mr. Linky with the direct URL to your post. Detailed directions for participating in FFFF and how to do get the direct URL to your post can be found here.

I found several pics from my elementary years. (I've posted a few previously, I think.) I seemed to alternate short/long hair each year.

Tex-Mex Chicken Corn Chowder

Thursday, March 12, 2009

It's been FOREVER since I posted a recipe. Probably because we haven't been eating anything new and exciting for a while. Just recycling the same old menu. On Wednesdays during Lent our church has soup suppers. I signed up to provide a soup tonight and I made Tex-Mex Chicken Corn Chowder. Here's the recipe~

Tex-Mex (Chicken) Corn Chowder
1 can corn (drained)
1 can creamed corn
1 can Mexican rotel
1 can black beans (rinsed)
1/2 cup chicken broth
1/2 cup or so of water
optional: chopped/shredded chickenMix all ingredients, heat, and serve! It's great with tortilla strips or even shreadded cheese. I tripled the recipe, subbed a big can of diced tomatoes for 2 rotel and used 2 cups chicken broth and 1 cup water instead and it was gobbled up!!

Reality Wrap

Monday, March 9, 2009

Bachelor~ I am so glad it's over and I hope we never see Jason & Molly again. I will be watching next season with Jillian!!

Survivor~ OK...what happened on Survivor? I can't remember. LOL! The secret alliance is looking stronger and stronger. Taj was an animal on the challenge. Even though they made it look like Sydney was going home, the vote of Sandy was no surprise.

Amazing Race~ Man, I just love Sunday nights!! AR & DH! LOL! It was a good episode tonight. Mark & Michael, while physically strong just aren't very good with directions! They will probably be out soon. I thought it would be a non-elim with the blind u-turn. Just seems like doing that would really cause friction with the teams. I don't think anyone would have picked Amanda & Kris to go home! The teams at the loser lodge will be surprised. I can't believe the blondes did so well this week. Maybe they've gotten beyond mistakes. Speaking of mistakes, the only ones to really make a mistake tonight was Mark & Michael. But otherwise the teams basically finished in the order that they came off the flights. WTH with the dark thongs?

Make Something Monday: Rag Doll

One of the moms at Dori's preschool made this adorable rag doll for her daughter for Christmas. I told her how cute it was and how I wanted to learn how to make it. We finally got together last week and got started on the doll. (Of course we spent most of the time gabbing and watching the kiddos.) The doll is really pretty easy to make.
Here is the finished product. I still need to make a skirt, but Dori is very happy with her new doll that has black hair just like her. **Dori is wearing her Strawberry Shortcake clippie in the pic. If you'd like to win some Strawberry Shortcake clippies, see the previous post! If I get around to it I will make another doll to give away soon.
