Great Book Ideas for Kids Giveaway

I recently received several books to review from Workman Publishing. My kids are always excited when I get a package with stuff for them to play with.

The first book is Twimericks: The Book of Tongue-Twisting Limericks. It’s a silly new book by Lou Brooks. A twimerick is a limerick and a tongue-twister rolled into one. This is not the type of book you can read in one sitting because you will be laughing so hard trying to say a twimerick as fast as possible that you have to take a break! One of my son's favorite twimerick is Fred's False Teeth.
Fred's false teeth fell five hundred feet,
From the fifty-fourth floor onto 45th Street...
While this is caterogized as a kid’s book, it must be reiterated that it’s kids of ALL ages. Children and adults will enjoy it alike. It’s great family entertainment in book form. Twimericks retails for $8.95. ISBN 978-0-07611-5603-1

The next book is Waddle! By Rufus Butler Seder. This is another book written for kids, but can be enjoyed by all ages. It’s a Scanimation picture book. Each pages shows an animal in color and motion. This book has me mesmerized. I keep turning each page at different speeds to try to figure out how it’s created. It’s almost like a hologram, but the motion of each animal is smoother. The name of the book is derived from a penguin, which can be seen through the hole in the cover. Each animal has a fun saying like Can you waddle like a penguin? Each page is really thick, so this can be enjoyed by children of all ages. Waddle! is one of a series of Scanimation books by Rufus Butler Seder. Waddle! retails for $12.95. ISBN 978-0-7611-5112-8

The final book is Pat the Beastie: A Pat and Poke Book by Henrik Drescher. This is a crazy silly parody of Pat the Bunny. My 4 year old just LOVES this book. She gets to touch, move, lift, and rub things. That is entertainment enough for the preschool set, but the story is lots of fun too. The illustrations, also done by Drescher, are so detailed! I love the little side notes coming from various animals around the edge of each page. They add such a silly touch. Pat the Beastie is for kids 3 and up and retails for $11.95. ISBN 978-0-7611-5610-9

I love the size and sturdiness of all these entertaining books and you will too! Each is about the size of a day planner (does anyone use those anymore?) and can slip easily into a purse or backpack for on the go entertainment.
