Be My Baby: Book Review
I recently got the chance to read Be My Baby: Parents and Children Talk About Adoption by Gail Kinn. This book is filled with wonderful stories and photographs of adoptive families and children. The books is divided into different story parts. One is written by adoptive parents telling how their families came to be. Another is candid thoughts and feelings of adoptive children ages nine through nineteen. Then there is a section where adults adopted as children reflect on how adoption has affected their lives. Finally, birth mothers share their experiences and feelings toward placing their children for adoption. You can read an excerpt from the book here.
I was taken by the coffee table style of the book. The large pages allow for beautifully detailed photographs, which were taken by Ken Shung. It's nice to pick up and read just one story or even a whole section at a time. Being an adoptive parent I felt that a few of these stories hit very close to home. Whether you are an adoptive parent or not, you will be touched by the honest and thoughtful stories in the book.
This book would serve as the perfect gift for anyone involved with adoption. I am going to get a few copies and have them on hand to give out as shower gifts. You can get Be My Baby at your local bookstore or Amazon. It retails for $27.50. ISBN 9781579651526 by Workman Publishing
