Look what my younger 2 got in their Easter Baskets! It's an awesome set for young scientists~ The Bug Book & Bug Bottle and the Bug Fandex.
The Bug Book & Bug Bottle is the perfect combination for collecting and identifying bugs. This set comes with The Bug Book, The Bug Bottle, a Bug Identification Chart, a plastic magnifying glass, and a journal for recording your bug finds. The Bug Book is written by entomologist Hugh Danks and has field notes on 46 different bugs. I like how they are arranged in the book, so you can find them by habitat. The book contains activities & tips for finding bugs. The lid of the bottle has holes and a (metric & standard) ruler on it, so you can catch a bug and when it's inside the bottle get it's measurements. You can view a bug and then let it go unharmed. The Bug Identification Chart allows you to check off bugs as you find them. The bug journal is really cute cause it looks like a small composition notebook, but the inside has a form which includes name of bug, check off type, where you found it, notes, and a space to draw the bug. I like how this encourages young learners to write.The Bug Fandex is a fun index of all kinds of bugs. This family friendly field guild fans out to reveal full-color die cut cards of each bug. These are not illustrations, but actual photographs of each bug. The front and back of each card goes into great detail about each bug and has a glossary in back. We've had the Birds Fandex for several years and it's in great shape. No doubt this Fandex would stand up to years of use. This Bug Fandex is a great compliment to The Bug Book & Bug Bottle.
