Blog Action Day: World Poverty

Today is Blog Action Day and the topic is World Poverty. What is Blog Action Day?
Today thousands of bloggers will unite to discuss a single issue - poverty. This is done in effort to raise awareness, initiate action and to shake the web! Read more HERE.

WOW~ I feel pretty insignificant. Like how can my rambling make a difference? And what actions should I take to make a difference? We try to be aware of those less fortunate around us and beyond and to teach our kids to be aware. I know our actions are very tiny in the grand scheme of things, but like the starfish story I hope we are making a difference to at least one person at a time. So right now I could tell you all the things we've done in the past, but I will just focus on today.

Todays Actions: Right now Eric is unloading food from the local food bank for the pantry that we run our of our church. Each week we more and more people use the food pantry. In a little bit I am going to go shop for supplies for health kits for LWR. The church authorized me to spend $100 on supplies, and since I am a super-shopper I can get a kit for around $3. I know it's not really my money, BUT I can make the money that we have go further. Then tonight the HS youth (of which Jake is a part of) will help assemble those health kits. LWR distributes the kits to refugees. I am going to take the time to discuss the kits with my children at dinner and how we take it's contents for granted.

On-Going Actions: This is where I feel like I am failing. Yes, we will continue to be involved in activities through our church, but what about my daily activities and thoughts? Right now I am not sure. I will think on it today and blog more tonight.
